In order for epoxy systems to harden, the resin and hardener must enter into a chemical reaction. Mixing is an important step in epoxy use. In order for the chemical reaction to take place without any problems, the resin and hardener must be homogeneously dispersed in the mixture. This depends on good mixing. Curing problems occur in mixtures that are not made homogeneously, in local areas or in all areas.
For a correct mixture, pay attention to the following items;
1- Absolutely comply with the mixing ratios of the resin type you use. Otherwise, it will not matter how well you have made the mixture and you may experience curing problems again. “What Mixing Ratio Should I Mix?” You can review our article titled.
2- Make sure that the container and mixing apparatus you will mix are clean and dry.
3- Place your mixing bowl on the precision scale and reset your scale by taking the container tare.
4- First, pour the required amount of epoxy hardener into the tared container and reset your balance by tare again.
5- Pour the required amount of calculated resin over the retarred hardener filled container. Do not forget to close the lids of the resin and hardeners you use at this stage.
6- Start mixing the weighed resin and hardener with a suitable mixing apparatus (wooden stick, metal spoon, glass baguette, mixer mixer tip, etc.).
7- Mix the mixture at a speed of approximately 100 rpm for at least 2 minutes. As the amount of material you mix increases, you may need to increase your mixing time or mixing speed. As soon as you start the mixture, first of all, a clouding will occur in the system and as the mixture continues, it will begin to become transparent again. After mixing until it is completely transparent, if you do not see a vein pattern following your mixing stick, the first stage of mixing is complete.
8- Transfer the mixture, the first stage of which has been completed, to another clean container by scraping and mix again.
9- Before using the mixture you mixed for the second time, take into account the working time of the product, let it rest for a while and then pour it on the area you will apply and complete your process.
Please note
When setting your mixing and resting times, be sure to pay attention to the working time of the resin type you use. Otherwise, while your mixing process continues, the product may start to react in the container and this may cause your product to dry before it can be used. For example, the total mixing, coloring and resting time of an epoxy with a working time of 20 minutes should not exceed 5 minutes. Increase your mixing speed if necessary by calculating this element of time. If you do not have time for the resting process, do not apply this step.
